We are happy to say, we are indeed still here, and now with a new newsletter, we’re back! You can anticipate receiving quarterly newsletters in September (fall issue), November/December (holiday/winter), February/March (spring), and May/June (summer). We are always looking for new newsletter article ideas, so if you would like a question answered or a specific topic addressed, please send them our way. GYM REMODELSince August 2005, we have undergone a significant gym remodel, resulting in far more training square footage, adding Olympic lifting capabilities, rope climbing, space for a free-standing climbing pinnacle (scheduled for summer 2008), Endless Pool (a “tread pool”, anticipated summer 2007), new gym equipment, and much, much more. Included here are a few select pictures of our spacious new facility. If you have not been by recently, come see for yourself! Seen here, the inspiring red and yellow walls enclose a 2-story open training room with dumbbells up to 120# in 5 pound increments; chin/dip station; boxing speed and heavy bag; lat pull/row cable station; supported seated row; incline abdominal bench; Scorpion core stand; plyometric boxes, bands, stability and medicine balls; adjustable benches. Here, the legs training area, complete with seated calf raise, squat rack, deadlift platform, safety squat bar, Olympic lifting bars, Glute-Ham-Gastroc bench, trap bar, and plyometric boxes in one inch increments to 52 inches. Far right you can see red gymnastics rings and a thick rope that provides 2-story climbing training access. A different view of the area shown in the first picture, showing elliptical trainer, Scorpion, step and floor aerobics area, rowing machine, and entry to Olympic lifting room. Olympic lifting room with soundproof walls! This room houses the Reverse Hyperextension machine, grip training implements, Olympic lifting platform, deluxe squat rack, and adjustable bench. WHAT BODY RESULTS CLIENTS ARE DOINGWe have received trip reports from clients who have been successful getting to the summits of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa; Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Black Peak, Mt. Baker, Forbidden Peak, Brothers, the Tooth, Sahale, Shuksan, Sloan and many more peaks in the Cascade and Olympic ranges in Washington state; down and back up again in the Grand Canyon; cragging in Yosemite; Whitney and Shasta in California; Jefferson and Hood in Oregon; and others who are gearing up for Aconcagua, the Ecuador volcanoes, and Everest in winter and spring 2006-7. In addition to climbing, we have clients who have been competing in local triathlons, running in ultradistance races, riding in the STP (Seattle-to- Portland) in a day, participating in RAMROD (Race Around Mount Rainier in One Day) and even one client dragonboat racing to potential U.S. representation in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Stay active, keep training, and keep those successful reports coming in! SUMMER 2006With remodeling, keeping Body Results Inc. running full throttle, digging up a huge mound of dirt in the back yard (and subsequent landscaping that goes with it), and raising a curious toddler, Courtenay and Doug have been extremely low on free time this summer. While our own climbing has been somewhat curtailed the past two years, we have gradually started to introduce our 2-year-old daughter to the joys of climbing and hiking. ![]() ![]() Here, Brooke enjoys splashing her feet in the cool waters at the bottom of Snoqualmie Falls, where she hiked the full mile (down to and along the boardwalk and back up) under her own power . It has been delightful to see an increase in her body awareness as she gets more comfortable on the climbing structures at local playgrounds . ![]()
We anticipate a fearless glissade fan one of these days, since she appears to love going downhill, fast, in all orientations. Two of her favorite activities at the playground are hanging on chin bars, trying to raise her knees up toward the bar; and racing up and down ramps with parents chasing her and playing “boo.”
Our final outing of the summer was on Labor Day, to Big Four Ice Caves, along the Mountain Loop Highway. The gradual 1 mile trail about 80 minutes from Seattle takes you along boardwalks, over several bridges, and meandering around some neat “tree caves” that Brooke loved climbing into. This picture shows Courtenay and Brooke in front of the Ice Caves (for scale, the holes are about 15 feet high!) The next natural steps should be getting her a toddler harness and chasing her up trails. |
